To address the growing needs of Germantown Municipal School District and Houston Middle School, the 42,544-square-foot addition was built as a reimagined classroom experience. The floor-to-ceiling windows create a light-drenched space to alleviate the cramped feeling of a conventional schoolroom. State-of-the-art rooms are specialized per subject to address the specific needs of students and teachers, while also flexible enough to handle scheduling and spacing per the school’s programmatic needs. By shifting the entrance to the expansion, traffic flow was redirected away from one of the city’s busiest streets and the extra space, provided by the new structure, allows for the City of Germantown to host extracurricular adult enrichment and recreational programming at the school.
