Having been the heart of Midtown Memphis in the 1970’s, Overton Square bustled with nearly 50 restaurants and shops and employed over 800 locals, but its popularity had waned in the 80’s as stores closed and surrounding neighborhoods declined. When faced with demolition in 2012, Grinder, Taber & Grinder played an integral role in the revitalization of the cultural landmark. Over the course of several years, each building was renovated as new merchants moved in; a detention pond and public parking garage built, and public art installed. Overton Square is now, once again, a celebrated entertainment district drawing crowds to events and live performances.
