When Visible Music College was searching for a new home, inspiration was found in an abandoned, mid‐century modern, sloped-glass building in the heart of downtown. The uniquely designed exterior was largely unchanged, which allowed for an extensive interior renovation that created state-of-the-art spaces specific to the music college’s needs. A full performance space was constructed on the first floor, with classrooms created on the upper floors. Having previously been a bank, GTG converted the former vault found in the basement into a sound resistant recording studio suitable for student music label production. The large, glass atrium was converted into a street-level urban park for the students, but can also serve as a performance venue. Through cost-engineering and close coordination with the architect, GTG was able to deliver approximately $45K in savings from the original budget projection.
