Nearly renovated Liberty Stadium is bringing the party — plaza

Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium is nearing the completion of its $226.5 million makeover, which includes a new party plaza.Fans inside the west tower and the people sitting in the blue seats below the plaza will be granted access.University of Memphis athletic director Ed Scott and his team took the media on a tour of the stadium Tuesday. He addressed a couple of questions about who else will have access to the plaza. Scott said that Memphis will have around 1,000 wristbands for sale each game for fans who are not included in the automatic access.

“I want to make it clear to everyone who is going to read this or listen or watch the news tonight, it’s not about bringing in more money to get people on the party plaza,” Scott said. “It’s actually about fire code.”The plaza has a 3,000-person limit, which prevents Memphis from granting access to all fans at one time. The Tigers still haven’t announced a price for the add-on.

“We don’t want to come out with a price yet and then have to walk it back,” Scott said. “So I want to get that right before we announce it.”

The first home game for the Tigers will be against Arkansas State on September 5. They open the season at UNLV on August 29.
