Crosstown Concourse and Live Nation broke ground on a new music venue, Satellite Music Hall. The name was announced Feb. 25.

Todd Richardson, Crosstown Concourse president and CEO, said the name “Satellite” reflects global music connections through Live Nation and Memphis’ local roots, referencing Satellite Records, the original name of Stax Records, and the Satellite Record Shop on East McLemore Avenue.

The project has been in development for six years. The venue will be a 35,000-square-foot facility at 431 N. Claybrook St., scheduled to open in fall 2026.

Grinder, Taber & Grinder Inc. is the general contractor.

The venue will have a capacity of 1,300, host about 100 events annually, and employ 150 people with a base pay of $20 per hour.

It will support Crosstown neighborhood revitalization and sit near Crosstown Concourse amenities, including dining, retail, and a 1,130-space parking garage.

The site, formerly a surface parking lot, was approved for redevelopment in February 2024.

Events will include concerts, comedy shows, community events, and corporate meetings.

Live Nation will handle booking and operations.

A partnership with Stax Music Academy’s Music Employs program will provide music industry training and education opportunities for students and young adults.
