Memphis-based Umansky Automotive Group — which sells Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Maserati, and other upscale brands — is planning to build a new stand-alone Genesis dealership in the Wolfchase area.
Hyundai Motor launched the Genesis brand in 2015 to compete in the luxury auto segment. The brand was envisioned as a separate marque from its parent company’s core offerings. Genesis currently offers six models, evenly split between SUVs and sedans, including some electric vehicles.
The proposed Genesis of Wolfchase dealership would be located at 7689 U.S. Hwy. 64. An application to the Land Use Control Board was submitted Aug. 30 by Rockfield Engineering LLC.
Umansky plans to use 2.97 acres of vacant land within an 8.7-acre parcel to construct an 18,000-square-foot facility. The dealership would handle vehicle sales, leasing, parts, and service, and include outdoor parking and display areas.
The company already operates Wolfchase Hyundai at 7727 U.S. Hwy. 64, just west of the proposed site. According to the application, Hyundai now requires separate facilities for retail sales and service of the Genesis brand.
Umansky Properties WH LLC secured a $10.91 million construction loan from Renasant Bank on Aug. 21, according to Shelby County records. The loan is tied to the existing Wolfchase Hyundai property.
An LLC affiliated with Umansky purchased the land for the new dealership in January for $1.75 million, according to property records.
Umansky Automotive Group operates 24 dealerships across Tennessee, Mississippi, California, Texas, and Wisconsin, along with a collision center in Wisconsin.
