Buster’s Liquors & Wines plans to open a second location at 5851 Poplar Ave. in the Ridgeway Trace Shopping Center in East Memphis later this year or early next year.

The expansion follows a long-term goal made possible after Tennessee law changes in 2014 allowed businesses to hold two liquor licenses. The family-owned company, now in its fourth generation after 69 years, has been considering an East Memphis location since then.

According to president Josh Hammond, many longtime customers have moved east, making the new location a natural fit.

The new store will be approximately 18,000 square feet and will include features not found at the original Highland Street location, such as a whiskey wall, cigar humidor, and a grab-and-go section with cheeses and prepared items.

The space will also include rooms for private events, tastings, and meetings.

The building, formerly a Staples, is being redesigned with updated architecture and interior finishes. Grinder, Taber & Grinder is handling construction.
