A new music venue operated by Live Nation is coming to the Crosstown neighborhood in Memphis.
Crosstown Concourse and Live Nation announced plans for the 35,000-square-foot venue at 431 N. Claybrook St. The site is located across from the Crosstown Concourse parking garage.
Todd Richardson, president and CEO of Crosstown Concourse, said the partnership will help make Memphis a regular tour stop and attract artists who might not otherwise perform in the city.
The 1,300-capacity venue is expected to host about 100 events annually and employ up to 150 people, with a base salary of $20 per hour.
According to a joint press release, the collaboration will provide access to top touring artists along with operational and hospitality expertise.
Grant Lyman, president of Live Nation Southeast, said the venue will add to Memphis’ live music scene while honoring its musical history.
Live Nation Entertainment, based in Beverly Hills, was formed in 2010 through the merger of Live Nation and Ticketmaster and is the world’s largest live entertainment company.
A commercial permit for the project was filed with the Memphis and Shelby County Division of Planning and Development on Nov. 20 by Grinder Taber Grinder. Construction is expected to begin this winter.
Earlier this year, the Memphis and Shelby County Land Use Control Board approved rezoning the 1.08-acre property from a surface parking lot to an indoor event center.
Richardson noted that the lot is often vacant and said the new venue—designed by local architects archimania—will benefit from the area’s central location, nearby parking garage, and access to food, beverage, and other amenities.
In addition to concerts, the venue is expected to host comedy shows, community events, corporate meetings, and special events.
