The Memphis Art Museum is set to open on Front Street and Union Avenue in December 2026.
Memphis Brooks Museum of Art leaders made that announcement on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2025. The Brooks Museum will be renamed the Memphis Art Museum when the organization relocates from its historic Overton Park facility in Midtown to its new location Downtown.
Herzog & de Meuron and Memphis-based archimania are behind the 122,000-square-foot facility currently under construction.
Memphis-based Grinder, Taber & Grinder, Inc. is the general contractor for the project.
The Memphis Art Museum is set to include 50% more gallery space and 600% more public space. The latter includes a 10,000-square-foot street-level courtyard and a 50,000-square-foot sculpture garden with a Mississippi River view.
The new facility will also include a plaza shared with the Cossitt Library, which is located next door. It will feature classrooms, galleries, a restaurant and cafe, and a theater on the ground floor.
