Satellite Music Hall to host community preview night

Two nights before Memphis-bred The Band Camino christens the Satellite Music Hall on Sept. 4-5, Satellite is opening its doors to the public.

A community preview will be held at the Live Nation and Crosstown Concourse venue from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2. The physical address is 1291 Autumn Ave.

The public can tour the new building during the event and also hear performances from DJ NyceLyfe, DJ Bizzle BlueBland, and Stax Music Academy alumni bands: 910 Band and 926 Band. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.

Tickets are $10, with all proceeds benefiting Stax Music Academy.

Satellite is partnering with Stax Music Academy to give academy students music-industry experience. 

Satellite also reports being “fully staffed,” hiring more than 110 employees. Satellite’s base pay is $20 per hour, with $25 per hour for supervisors. 

Jobs include, but are not limited to, guest-services representative, security, production assistant, box office/ticket taker, audio technician, ancillary sales, stagehand, lighting technician, operations lead, operations supervisor and porter/cleaner.

Satellite held a job fair last week.

Not including the preview and The Band Camino performances, Satellite has more than 25 shows booked through Dec. 1. They include Memphis artists Project Pat and Valerie June, as well as acts Chance the Rapper, Isaiah Rashad, Modest Mouse and GWAR. 

The Band Camino announced that both of its shows at Satellite will be recorded for the band’s live album.
